What is Screening Test or FMGE? Important Things to Know About FMGE

FMGE is Foreign Medical Graduates Examination. Students, who complete MBBS abroad and intend to practice in India, have to appear and clear the medical licensing exam. National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), National Medical Commission (NMC)’s subsidiary, conducts the exam. While these are the basics, let’s look at a few more aspects concerning FMGE.


FMGE Significance

FMGE is a crucial eligibility and licensing exam for all abroad medical graduates. It decides students’ career fate, as passing this examination is necessary to get licensed to practice in India. FMGE aims to maintain a particular standard among medical students and help Indian students to establish their career in India. So, if you have a primary degree from a recognized medical university abroad and intend to register with the NMC, FMGE is a must.


FMGE Eligibility

What is the eligibility criteria for FMGE?

Here’s the answer.

  • The candidates must be a bonafide Indian citizen or OCI (Overseas Citizen of India).

  • The candidate must have a medical degree confirmed by the respective Indian embassy.

  • The qualifications must be recognized by the country where the institute is situated to enable you to enroll as a medical practitioner.

  • Submit educational proofs.

If you have done your medical studies and have a primary medical degree from Australia, UK, USA, New Zealand or Canada, you do not have to appear for FMGE.

FMGE Application | How to Apply for FMGE?

The NBE releases application forms for June and December sessions separately.


FMGE Form Filling | How to Fill the FMGE Application?

Here’s the procedure to fill the FMGE application.

  • Click on FMGE Application Form on the official website

  • Register with your phone number and email address

  • You will receive login credentials on your email address

  • Log in using your User ID and password

  • Submit your personal information, qualification and communication details

  • Specify the city of your choice

  • Upload scanned photos, signature and left thumb impression

  • Agree to the declaration and pay

  • A confirmation page appears where you must recheck all your details


FMGE Documents

Students must submit the below documents with the specifications mentioned below.

  • 10th and 12th standard certificate and mark sheet

  • Address proof

  • Internship certificate

  • Photo ID Proof (Aadhar Card/ Voter ID/ PAN Card/ Driving License, etc.)

  • MBBS degree

  • Passport copy

  • Eligibility certificate issued by the National Medical Commission (NMC)

  • Passport size photographs

  • Digital signatures

While reporting to the FMGE exam center, you must carry the following documents with you.

  • PAN card

  • Voter ID

  • Passport

  • Driving License

  • Aadhar Card

FMGE Mock Test | How to Take the FMGE Mock Test?

You can take the FMGE mock test to prepare for it better. Here’s how to do it.

  • Open NBE FMGE website

  • Click on the Application Login section

  • Fill your User ID and password

  • You will find a mock test available for you

  • Read the instruction for practice tests

  • Click on ‘I am ready to Begin’ to start the mock test

  • Each question will have four options with only one right answer

  • Click the correct answer, click save and then click next


FMGE Cut-Off | FMGE Passing Marks

The passing marks for FMGE exam are at least 150 out of 300.
